Frequently Asked Questions

Eligibility

Who can apply?
  • Individuals aged 18+
  • Young people (11–17) applying with the support of a trusted adult and church leader
  • Registered charities
What kinds of projects are eligible?
Projects must be:
  • Local/National – serving where you live (not overseas mission)
  • Gospel-centred – evangelism is the core aim
  • Creative or extra-ordinary – something fresh, bold, or pioneering
  • Distinct – not just ongoing ministry or regular church work
What is not eligible?
We don't usually fund:
  • Overseas mission trips
  • Regular church planting or ongoing ministry costs
  • Staff salaries (unless for highly innovative evangelism)
  • Projects with existing funding or infrastructure

Funding

How much is a Seed?
  • Micro Seed – $1,000 AUD / £500 GBP (ages 11–17)
  • Small Seed – $2,000 AUD / £1,000 GBP
  • Regular Seed – $20,000 AUD / £10,000 GBP
What can a Seed be spent on?
  • Project costs (equipment, resources, creative tools)
  • Living costs (to free you for evangelism work)
  • Not buildings, rent, or long-term running costs
If I don't get selected for funding, can I reapply?
You can reapply with a different email address for a different project — or with significant changes from your original application. Before applying, contact gatekeeper@justsow.org to check the specifics.

Micro Seeds (11–17 Year Olds)

Do I need parent/guardian consent?
Yes. If you are aged 11–17, you must submit an application with parent/guardian consent.
How does parent/guardian consent work?
Your parent/guardian completes a quick digital consent form. You will need their details (name and email) when you apply.
Do I need a church leader or trusted adult?
Yes. Micro Seed applications must be supported by:
  • a trusted adult, and
  • an endorsing church leader (or authorised charity leader).
Do I have to upload a video?
No. A video is optional for Micro Seeds.
If you do upload one, please film in a private place and do not show your school name, uniform, home address, or other students.
What should I avoid sharing in my application?
Please do not include identifying details such as:
  • your school name
  • your uniform
  • your home address, or
  • information about other students.

Application Process

How do I apply?
Applications are fully digital via our website. You'll need:
  • Project name and details (budget, goals, team)
  • A 60-second video introducing your project
  • A 30-second referee video (ideally your church leader or charity manager)
  • Bank details or a Stewardship account (UK only)
Is there a deadline?
No. Applications are rolling — apply when you're ready.
What happens after I apply?
  1. Review by the JustSow team
  1. If approved, your project is published on our site for up to 6 months
  1. If funded, we'll be in touch to release your Seed and arrange reporting
Why might my project not be published?
  • It doesn't meet eligibility guidelines
  • It overlaps with existing funded projects
  • It lacks a clear evangelistic focus
Unfortunately, we can't give individual feedback on unsuccessful applications.
Tips for a Strong Application
  • Tell your story clearly – what's your dream and why does it matter?
  • Keep it tidy – check spelling and grammar so Sowers focus on your vision.
  • Make your video engaging – don't just talk, show your idea in action.
  • Set clear goals – measurable outcomes that point to people hearing about Jesus.

🎥 Video Guide

How do I film a great video?
It doesn't need to be fancy or professional — just real, clear, and passionate.
Filming Tips
  • Find good light: Film outside or near a window so your face is clear and inviting.
  • Set the scene: Choose a location that reflects your project's atmosphere.
  • Keep it steady: Ask a friend to hold the camera or prop your phone up — no shaky shots.
  • Speak clearly: Share with energy and confidence — let your passion shine.
  • Try interview style: If you feel nervous, have a friend ask you questions while you answer naturally.
Questions to Answer
Keep your answers short and simple (1–2 sentences each). Imagine you're sharing your idea with a friend over coffee.
  1. Who are you? (Name + one line about yourself)
  1. What's your project? (Describe it in one clear sentence — what you'll actually do)
  1. Why does it matter? (How will this help people meet Jesus?)
  1. What makes it unique? (What's fresh, creative, or different about your idea?)
  1. How many people do you hope to reach? (Your best estimate — doesn't need to be exact)
  1. How will the finance help? (Explain how the Seed will make your project possible)
Final Pointers
  • Aim for 60 seconds max — short and punchy is better.
  • Be yourself! Your personality and faith are your strongest tools.
  • Remember: You're not just sharing an idea — you're inviting others into an adventure with Jesus.
Troubleshooting: video or submission issues
  • Why can't I submit? Check for red alerts in the form and make sure all fields are complete.
  • My video won't upload? Upload directly via the JustSow site (not third-party apps).

Scale Seeds

Can I apply for a Scale Seed?
Scale Seeds are rare and invitation-only. Projects may be nominated at JustSow's discretion, usually after the JustGrown interview at around 12 months (or at the end of the programme, whichever comes first).
If invited, JustSow will guide next steps. Fewer than 5% of First Seed projects are invited to pitch for a Scale Seed. There is no additional application form, but JustSow may request information such as a budget, a 1–3 year strategy, governance details, and your venture and funding target.
It is unusual for Creative Evangelists to receive a Second Seed, but it may happen where there is specific Sower interest.
When will the Scale Seed money be paid, and how?
Pledges are usually paid anonymously via Stewardship or JustSow Giving, then passed on to the project. Funding is paid after JustSow has received the final response from Sowers, typically within up to one month after that point. Because Scale Seeds are often collaborative, there may be several deposits over a period of time.
